Woven Kete(basket) Jewellery
According to Maori traditions the kete, or woven basket, represents a container of wisdom, combining the Tapu or sacred and the practical, understanding, knowledge, education, passed on to future generations.
Used as containers for gathering and storing crops and seafood, the Kete are skillfully woven from flax, or Harakeke, made in a variety of shapes and sizes.
Taking this design idea, we have woven, in precious metal, pendants and earrings, combined with paua shell, NZ greenstone, natural gems and glass beads, forming unique and beautiful jewellery with a kiwi, New Zealand connection.
